To the Youngest Sons and Daughters of the Sindhi language
Dear Friends,
Until now, all of us have grown up like the small children that we are,
focusing on our studies, taking part in sports and other extra-curricular
activities, but generally, unconcerned about the household affairs; the parents
have taken care of the bread and butter worries and the grandparents have taken
care of the spiritual and emotional health and unity of the Sindhi family.
2007 marks the year when we, the Sindhi community will complete 60 years since
the Partition, 2 whole generations spent in getting over the turmoil of
migration and finding roots in the new land. Being the enterprising community
that we are, we have formed roots in the new land and started to bloom again,
doing quite well, in fact, thanks to our grandparents and parents. But in this
process, having taken refuge with our foster mother languages (of the
respective lands we settled in), looking after our mother language Sindhi, was
left to the eldest sons and daughters, our grandparents.
However, the family is doing well now and we, the grandchildren, have come of
age. So time has now come for us to learn about our mother language Sindhi,
from our grandparents and start looking after her, ourselves.
We are scattered into many places in the world, but thanks to the technological
progress, we can talk, make forums, and make ourselves feel close together in
many ways. We hope to make this website as our meeting place. We can each
listen to the stories from our respective grandparents and share them with each
other here, or simply make friends and find out what our fellow Sindhis are
doing wherever they are. We can also learn to speak Sindhi here, find good
Sindhi music and discover many other little things that we have inherited and
are a part of us.
The 10 minute Contribution Pledge
But one thing we all must to our selves, that in
the name of that person, because of whom we think we are Sindhi, whether,
mother, father, grandparent or anyone else, that we will give at least
10 minutes every week to being a Sindhi by either speaking the
language, singing/listening to Sindhi music, or even just thinking about what
you should or could do for Sindhi. We intend to try to make this website, your
place to come and visit your Sindhi friends, to help you keep your 10 minutes
pledge.
For my part, I have translated my grandpafs book eAutobiography of the Sindhi
languagef, and I will post one chapter each week as my 10 min contribution, for
a while.
Please post things that you have done for the 10 min
Those which are good will be selected as the CONTRIBUTION of the WEEK and put
on the front page
We shall have chats, personal profile, etc, Sindhi story time, so please come
and have fun
Yuki Divyansh
